Hawaii
January 2007 – August 2007
In Oahu
I came to Hawai’I with a good friend, Dylan Kwapy. I owe him a life time of thanks for giving me this beautiful retreat.
I am rebuilding after two years of drifting. My feet are becoming grounded. But, I can still touch the stars. I stand on a razors edge. But, I am perfect. I am energy. I am understanding something great. Something is beyond all of This.
It rains in Hawaii. The sky drops and turns grey. The sun hides well behind the clouds and smiles stay on every face. The sun will return.
Here I spent much of time in meditation, conversing with homeless in Waikiki, hiking, climbing, working [dark room manager, eco-tour hiking guide, cook at a co-op}, and at the beach…all while trying to figure out how to become grounded and be whole.
I chose the slower life because it is all that I need. My memories are not momentary but rather they are deep and lasting.
In Molikai’I
With thumbs hitched high in peril of long miles we moved our feet around Molikai’I. David Watters is with me on this island known as the ‘friendly isle.’ It is two faced like most places. This paradise is filled with words of renewal, sharing and understanding through the hard fighting soul, the elimination, and the countless cowardice slides on words. Those who I must remember are those who shared love because fear is not but the imaginary and the soul is not but I and I.
Here we climbed down the world’s tallest sea cliffs and at a cocoa-colored beach, run by crabs and bordered by a leper colony, I said farewell to my grandfather. I washed his ashes into the crashing surf. He blew southwest toward the mile high sea cliffs and over my friend David, asleep on the sands.
Here we had free mangoes, a night a blessings and cold rain, and a movie with an unexpected friend.
In Big Island,
It is beautiful. I went with Dylan and we lived well. We climbed Mauna Kea, watched madmen at the beaches and roamed endlessly and without direction.
